Aids or Age Magic should Retire

The NBA finals are approaching soon, which means that network television will have a control of the remaining NBA broadcasts.

I like watching the TNT crew over the ABC crew. With the exception of Jeff Van Gundy I don’t really get anything intelligent or even entertaining with the guys over at Espn/ABC.  Its absolute torture to watch. I go so far to even change the channel at half-time and set my alarm for ten minutes when I know the torture will have ended.

I grew up reading Michael Wilbon, and Tony Kornheiser during their tenures at The Washington Post. Love their insight and humor.  Michael is a better writer then he is a host but I’m not blaming him one bit for picking up the broadcasting check.

I was introduced to Chris Broussard during his coverage of the potential NBA lockout. He seemed to always have the “inside scoop”.  Overall he’s average. Does not really have a “broadcaster’s voice” in my opinion.  But he’s not that bad. Jon Barry ditto.

But the person who erks me is Magic Johnson. He’s the classic case of failure in the transitioning of an athlete from the jersey to the business suit. He mumbles quite often. Loses he train of thought with timely “um’s”.  And overall is just not saying anything of importance.  Not to mention he said Mike Brown would be fired if the Lakers didn’t win (he’s part owner of the Lakers). I even remember a couple years ago during the Finals he said during a broadcast that the Lakers were an embarrassment to the city of LA after getting blown out in a game. So much for being impartial Magic.  And the expressions on his colleagues’ faces when he speaks tell a lot.

I don’t know if it’s his age or maybe deteriorating health. I work in the medical profession so I’m extremely empathetic to sickly people.  So if this is the case I feel for him. But someone, with the power to do so, should allow him to gracefully bow out and not be made a fool of in front of millions, because this is precisely what’s happening.
